เมื่อวันที่ 26 กันยายน 2567 นายเชิดชาย ใช้ไววิทย์ เอกอัครราชทูตผู้แทนถาวรไทยประจำสหประชาชาติ ณ นครนิวยอร์ก ได้รับมอบหมายจากนายมาริษ เสงี่ยมพงษ์ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ให้เป็นเจ้าภาพและผู้แทนกล่าวสุนทรพจน์ ในงานเลี้ยงรับรองเนื่องในโอกาสที่ประเทศไทยลงสมัครสมาชิกคณะมนตรีสิทธิมนุษยชนแห่งประชาชาติ (Human Rights Council: HRC) วาระปี 2568 - 2570 ที่คณะผู้แทนถาวรไทยประจำสหประชาชาติ ณ นครนิวยอร์ก โดยมีผู้แทนระดับสูงจากประเทศต่าง ๆ เข้าร่วม

การสมัครสมาชิก HRC ของไทย วาระ 2025-2027 สะท้อนถึงความมุ่งมั่นที่จะมีส่วนในการส่งเสริมและคุ้มครองสิทธิมนุษยชนทั้งในระดับประเทศ ภูมิภาค และโลก โดยไทยหวังว่าจะได้รับโอกาสเข้าไปทำหน้าที่และมีบทบาทอย่างสร้างสรรค์ และช่วยเป็นสะพานเชื่อมเพื่อสอดประสานท่าทีต่าง ๆ (bridge builder) รวมถึงร่วมในการกำหนดทิศทางการดำเนินงานของ HRC เพื่อให้ HRC ตอบสนองต่อความท้าทายด้านสิทธิมนุษยชนใหม่ ๆ ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพท่ามกลางบริบทโลกที่มีความซับซ้อนและเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างรวดเร็ว

On 26 September 2024, H.E. Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations was assigned by the Minister of Foreign Affairs to host and deliver opening remarks at the reception on the occasion of Thailand’s candidature to the Human Rights Council for the term 2025-2027 at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations. The reception was well attended by high-level representatives from various countries.

Thailand’s candidacy to the Human Rights Council reflects its continued commitment to further advance the promotion and protection of human rights in the country, region and worldwide. Thailand is aspired to be a constructive member of the Council and serve as a bridge builder to forge cooperation in responding effectively to new and emerging human rights challenges in the context of complex and rapidly changing world.
