เมื่อวันที่ ๒ ตุลาคม ๒๕๖๖ นางเอกสิริ ปิณฑะรุจิ อธิบดีกรมองค์การระหว่างประเทศ เข้าร่วมงาน International Day of Non-Violence จัดโดยสถานเอกอัครราชทูตอินเดียประจำประเทศไทยร่วมกับคณะกรรมาธิการเศรษฐกิจและสังคมแห่งสหประชาชาติสำหรับเอเชียและแปซิฟิก (ESCAP) ณ ศูนย์การประชุมสหประชาชาติ กรุงเทพฯ โดยได้ร่วมคล้องพวงมาลัยที่รูปปั้นมหาตมะ คานธี ในบริเวณศูนย์การประชุมฯ

                   นาย Nagesh Singh เอกอัครราชทูตอินเดียประจำประเทศไทย และนาง Lin Yang รองเลขาธิการบริหาร ESCAP กล่าวเปิดงานย้ำถึงความสำคัญของการส่งเสริมการยุติความรุนแรง อันเป็นพื้นฐานของการส่งเสริมสันติภาพ สิทธิมนุษยชน และการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน ตามด้วยการแสดงปาฐกถาพิเศษโดย    ผศ.สุรัตน์ โหราชัยกุล ผู้อำนวยการศูนย์อินเดียศึกษาแห่งจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ที่เน้นคำสอนและแนวคิดของมหาตมะ คานธี ที่ยังคงความสำคัญและเกี่ยวข้องกับโลกยุคปัจจุบัน อีกทั้งจะเป็นประโยชน์ต่อเยาวชนรุ่นหลังในการจัดการกับความท้าทายต่าง ๆ ในโลก นอกจากนี้ ยังมีการเปิดวีดิทัศน์แนวคิดและผลงานมหาตมะ คานธี และการแสดงทางวัฒนธรรมจากนิสิตคณะอักษรศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย

                 งาน International Day of Non-Violence จัดขึ้นเป็นประจำทุกปี โดยเป็นไปตามข้อมติสมัชชาสหประชาชาติ สมัยสามัญ ครั้งที่ ๖๑ (รับรองเมื่อวันที่ ๑๕ มิถุนายน ๒๕๕๐) ซึ่งกำหนดให้วันที่ ๒ ตุลาคมของทุกปีเป็นวันต่อต้านความรุนแรงสากล ซึ่งวันดังกล่าวเป็นวันคล้ายวันเกิดของของมหาตมะ คานธี บิดาของประเทศอินเดียและต้นแบบผู้ยึดมั่นในสันติวิธีที่ได้รับการยอมรับจากทั่วโลก

            Director-General of the Department of International Organizations attended in the commemoration ceremony of the International Day of Non-Violence

           On 2 October 2023, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations attended the commemoration ceremony of the International Day of Non-Violence organised by the Embassy of India, Bangkok, in association with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) at United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok where she laid floral tributes to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi.

           H.E. Mr. Nagesh Singh, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Thailand and Mrs. Lin Yang, Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCAP delivered the opening remarks reiterating the importance of elimination of violence as a basis of peace, human rights and sustainable development. This was followed by the keynote remarks by Assistant Professor Surat Horachaikul, Director of the Indian Studies Center of Chulalongkorn University, on the teachings and thoughts of Gandhi which remains essential and relevant to the modern world as they would be beneficial for younger generations in dealing with global challenges. Furthermore, a video presentation of Gandhi’s thoughts was and works was shown. This was followed by a cultural performance by students of the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University.

           The annual commemoration of the International Day of Non-Violence is held in line with the Resolution 61/271  adopted at the 61st session of the United Nations General Assembly on 15 June 2007 which declared 2 October, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the Indian nation and the apostle of peace, as the International Day of Non-Violence.
