เมื่อวันที่ 27 พฤศจิกายน 2566 นายสีหศักดิ์ พวงเกตุแก้ว ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีประจำกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ให้การต้อนรับนางอาร์มิดา ซัลเซียะฮ์ อาลิสจะฮ์บานา เลขาธิการบริหารคณะกรรมาธิการเศรษฐกิจและสังคมแห่งสหประชาชาติสำหรับเอเชียและแปซิฟิก (เอสแคป) เพื่อหารือถึงแผนงานและความร่วมมือระหว่างกันในปี 2567

ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีฯ และเลขาธิการบริหารเอสแคปได้แลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองเกี่ยวกับการเร่งรัดการขับเคลื่อนเป้าหมายการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืนในระดับประเทศและในภูมิภาคอาเซียน ในฐานะที่ไทยเป็นผู้ประสานงานของอาเซียนในเรื่องการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน การจัดการประชุมที่สำคัญของเอสแคปในปี 2567 เพื่อขยายผลจากการประชุม SDG Summit เมื่อเดือนกันยายน 2566 และการจัดทำข้อเสนอแนะของภูมิภาคสำหรับการประชุม Summit of the Future ที่จะมีขึ้นในเดือนกันยายน 2567 รวมถึงการเสริมสร้างประสิทธิภาพระบบพหุภาคีและบทบาทของสหประชาชาติในการส่งเสริมความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศเพื่อรับมือกับความท้าทายในอนาคต 

นอกจากนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายได้หารือเกี่ยวกับการส่งเสริมความร่วมมือเรื่องโครงการก่อสร้างอาคารที่ทำการของเอสแคป ให้ทันสมัยและปลอดภัย รวมถึงการส่งเสริมการเพิ่มบุคลากรไทยในสหประชาชาติ

On 27 November 2023, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Mrs. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) discussed plans and cooperation between Thailand and UNESCAP for 2024.

The Vice Minister and the UNESCAP Executive Secretary exchanged views on ways to accelerate teh Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation both at the national level and in ASEAN, as Thailand is the ASEAN Coordinator on Sustainable Development Cooperation. The discussion also included the upcoming major ESCAP conferences in 2024 to further build upon the outcomes of the SDG Summit held in September 2023, and develop regional inputs for the Summit of the Future to be held in September 2024, as well as reviving the effective multilateralism and enhancing the UN's role for international cooperation to meet challenges head on.

 In addition, both sides also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the renovation project for ESCAP premises in Bangkok and to increase the number of Thai nationals at the UN.
