เมื่อวันที่ ๒๓ มกราคม ๒๕๖๖ นางเอกสิริ ปิณฑะรุจิ อธิบดีกรมองค์การระหว่างประเทศ พร้อมด้วยนางกีต้า ซับบระวาล ผู้ประสานงานสหประชาชาติประจำประเทศไทย นางสาวอัจฉรา เสริบุตร อุปนายกสมาคมสหประชาชาติแห่งประเทศไทย ได้เข้าร่วมและกล่าวถ้อยแถลงในพิธีเปิดกิจกรรมงานวันเด็กที่สหประชาชาติ ในหัวข้อ “เยาวชนกับการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน” ณ อาคารศูนย์การประชุมสหประชาชาติ โดยมีนายศานนท์ หวังสร้างบุญ รองผู้ว่าราชการกรุงเทพมหานคร ได้เข้าร่วมกล่าวปาฐกถาในหัวข้อดังกล่าวด้วย

อธิบดีกรมองค์การฯ ได้ย้ำความสำคัญของเยาวชนในการสนับสนุนการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน เป้าหมายการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน (Sustainable Development Goals: SDGs) ไม่ใช่เรื่องไกลตัว แต่เกี่ยวข้องกับชีวิตของเด็กและเยาวชนในหลายแง่มุม เยาวชนจึงสามารถมีส่วนร่วมในทุกขั้นตอน และสามารถร่วมกำหนดแนวทางขับเคลื่อนและเร่งการดำเนินงานเพื่อบรรลุ SDGs ได้ โดยเฉพาะในทศวรรษแห่งการดำเนินการอย่างจริงจัง หรือ "Decade of Action" ที่ประชาคมระหว่างประเทศมีเป้าหมายที่จะบรรลุ SDGs ภายในปี ค.ศ. ๒๐๓๐ ในส่วนของกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้สนับสนุนการมีส่วนร่วมของเยาวชนไทยในงานการทูตพหุภาคี โดยได้เปิดรับสมัครคัดเลือกผู้แทนเยาวชน (youth delegates) เข้าร่วมในคณะทางการของไทยไปร่วมการประชุมสมัชชาสหประชาชาติ (United Nations General Assembly: UNGA) ณ นครนิวยอร์ก อย่างต่อเนื่องเป็นประจำทุกปี

นางกีต้า ซับบระวาล ผู้ประสานงานสหประชาชาติประจำประเทศไทย ได้ย้ำความมุ่งมั่นของหน่วยงานสหประชาชาติในไทย (UN Country Team) ทั้ง ๒๑ หน่วยงาน ที่จะร่วมมือทำงานกับรัฐบาลไทยอย่างใกล้ชิด พร้อมกล่าวถึงแรงบันดาลใจในการจัดกิจกรรมวันเด็กในครั้งนี้ ซึ่งมาจากการรับฟังความเห็นของเยาวชนโดยตรง รวมถึงชื่นชมแนวทาง เพื่อสนับสนุนการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืนของไทย ได้แก่ หลักปรัชญาของเศรษฐกิจพอเพียง และโมเดลเศรษฐกิจชีวภาพ-เศรษฐกิจหมุนเวียน-เศรษฐกิจสีเขียว (Bio-Circular-Green Economic Model- BCG)

นายศานนท์ หวังสร้างบุญ รองผู้ว่าราชการกรุงเทพมหานคร ได้กล่าวปาฐกถาเกี่ยวกับการดำเนินงานของกรุงเทพมหานครในการพัฒนาเมืองให้สอดรับกับการบรรลุ SDGs โดยมีนโยบายเพื่อเสริมสร้างศักยภาพของเด็กและเยาวชน ผ่านการเปิดโอกาสให้เด็กทุกกลุ่มสามารถเข้าถึงการศึกษาได้อย่างเท่าเทียม การเปิดพื้นที่ให้เด็กและเยาวชนได้แสดงความสามารถอย่างสร้างสรรค์ ตลอดจนเน้นย้ำว่า เยาวชนคืออนาคตของเมืองและจะเป็นเจ้าของเมืองต่อไปในอนาคต

นอกจากนี้ นายมุนินทร วัฒนายากร และนางสาวปินดา วิริยะพงษ์ศรี ตัวแทนเยาวชนไทยในการประชุมสมัชชาสหประชาชาติ เมื่อปี ๒๕๖๑ และ ๒๕๖๕ ได้ร่วมบรรยายเพื่อแบ่งปันประสบการณ์และแลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองเกี่ยวกับบทบาทของเยาวชนในงานการทูตพหุภาคีและการสนับสนุนการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืนอีกด้วย

การจัดกิจกรรมวันเด็กในครั้งนี้เป็นความร่วมมือระหว่างกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ สำนักงานผู้ประสานงานสหประชาชาติประจำประเทศไทย (Resident Coordinator’s Office: RCO) กรุงเทพมหานคร สมาคมสหประชาชาติแห่งประเทศไทย (United Nations Association of Thailand: UNAT) โดยมีนักเรียนและครูจากโรงเรียนกว่า ๑๕๐ คน จาก ๑๑ โรงเรียนในสังกัดกรุงเทพมหานครเข้าร่วมอย่างคับคั่ง รวมถึงมีหน่วยงานของสหประชาชาติในประเทศไทยร่วมจัดบูธกิจกรรม อาทิ โครงการพัฒนาแห่งสหประชาชาติ (United Nations Development Programme : UNDP) กองทุนเพื่อเด็กแห่งสหประชาชาติ (United Nations Children’s Fund : UNICEF) และองค์การการศึกษา วิทยาศาสตร์ และวัฒนธรรมแห่งสหประชาชาติ (UNESCO)

On 23 January 2023, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Director-General of Department of International
Organizations, together with Ms. Gita Sabharwal, Resident Coordinator for Thailand and Ms. Atchara Seributr,
Vice President of the United Nations Association of Thailand (UNAT) delivered the opening remarks at
the Thai Children’s Day event organized at the United Nations Conference Center under the theme
“Youth and Sustainable Development”. Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok also
attended the event and gave a keynote speech on the same topic.
In her opening remarks, the Director-General emphasised the important role of youth
in promoting sustainable development and accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs). She highlighted that SDGs is closely linked to the daily lives of youth in
various dimensions and encouraged young people to be involved in Thailand’s implementation of
SDGs, especially during the Decade of Action where the international community must achieve these
Goals by 2030. The Director-General also commented on one of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’
initiatives to promote youth participation in multilateral diplomacy by selecting representatives of
the Thai youth to join Thailand’s official delegation at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The Resident Coordinator reaffirmed the commitments of the 21 agencies of the UN
Country Team (UNCT) in working closely with the Royal Thai Government. She also added that the
initial idea for today’s event came directly from young people she met last year. She commended
Thailand’s efforts in promoting sustainable development and achieving SDGs through its home-grown
approaches including the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) and the Bio-Circular-Green Economy
Model (BCG).
During his keynote remarks, the Deputy Governor of Bangkok highlighted the importance
of youth as the future of cities and bearers of their own future. In this regard, he mentioned
numerous initiatives by the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA) to support the city in achieving
SDGs as well as empowering and building capacity for children and youth of Bangkok. These initiatives
include, for example, fostering equitable access to education and creating space for youth to express
themselves.
In addition, Mr. Munithorn Wattanayakorn and Ms. Pinda Wiriyapongsri, Thai youth
delegates at the UNGA73 and UNGA77 shared their experience of representing Thai youth at the UN
General Assembly in New York. They also exchange views with the students on the role of youth in
promoting sustainable development and SDGs.
The Thai Children’s Day event at UNESCAP is a collaboration between the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, Office of the UN Resident Coordinator, the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority and the
United Nations Association of Thailand. The event was well-attended by over 150 students and
teachers from 11 middle and high schools under the BMA. Many UN agencies also took part in
organizing activity booths, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United
Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO).
